	Tier 1 Visa (General Highly Skilled - HSMP)
	The Tier 1 General Highly Skilled Visa replaces the previous Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) and allows working in the UK for an initial period of 2 years without needing a job offer. All time spent in the UK while holding Tier 1 General Highly Skilled Visa status counts towards Permanent Residence. After the initial 2-year period you would be expected to apply for a 3-year extension to your Tier 1 Visa, after which you will be able to apply for Permanent Residence.

	Primary Points-Scoring Requirements
	To apply under our points-based system and be accepted into the highly skilled worker category, you must pass a points-based assessment. You must score :
	75 points for your attributes (age, qualifications, previous earnings, and experience/study in the United Kingdom); and 10 points for English language; and 10 points for available maintenance (funds).

	If you do not score a minimum of 75 points for your attributes and 10 points for English language and 10 points for available maintenance (funds), your application will be refused. You must score at least 75 points to qualify. Points are awarded for your age, qualifications, past earnings and UK experience.
